Living in a Broken World

By Di Priest
“I will sing of the goodness and lovingkindness of the LORD forever; With my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness from generation to generation.” Psalms 89:1 Amplified Bible
March was rather tumultuous for Phil and myself with a much-anticipated trip to Tassie to meet our first grandson Henry, plus moving house due to the sale of the rental we have been in for the past two years, plus supporting my parents (also in Tassie) who have reached a stage of life where tough decisions need to be made urgently.
Life is full of twists and turns, ups and downs and opportunities to listen, learn and grow closer to our good and kind God. My purpose in sharing is to highlight God’s goodness, loving kindness and authority in all the circumstances of our life.
Our first hurdle of finding somewhere else to rent was resolved before we knew we had a situation. A dear friend offered us his rental investment property before we knew we had to move. The very next week our Real Estate let us know we would need to move out. God had gone before and provided us the blessing of new accommodation for us to settle and stay in Hervey Bay for the long haul. Wow!
In the lead up to our trip to Tassie, we cleaned, sorted, boxed up most of our stuff and left the place tidy and available for Real Estate to show people through in our absence. But in our absence, some rather unsavoury characters broke in and helped themselves to many of our belongings. The two most significant losses were Phil’s beloved motorbike and my laptop. One of the rather savvier looters managed to crack my rather feeble password and engaged in a spending spree which drained our bank account. Ahh, the bruising of living in a broken sin-damaged world.
But God! Yes, this morning I was humming the words to an old chorus based on Ps 89:1 (showing my age I know) and smiling at the way we can truly be overcomers in any circumstance.
Another rich blessing of our time in Tassie, beside lots of cuddles with a new grandson, was quality time with my ageing parents and the way God undertook to fast-track an ACAT assessment while I was with them. The miracle of being moved from a two month wait list to the top, the miracle of the assessor being a lovely Christian lady whose children I taught while I was Principal at the Christian School. The miracle of my parents trusting me to empower them to take brave steps into being safely cared for in their golden years.
So many blessings, despite the tumult, despite the confusion and uncertainty and shock of circumstances.
So many blessings.
Yes, I will sing of the blessings of the Lord forever. I will sing.
