Introducing
Anguganak Healthy Motherhood Project
The Anguganak Healthy Motherhood Project is dedicated to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
In many rural areas of PNG, women have traditionally given birth without access to skilled assistance, resulting in distressingly high maternal and infant mortality rates. Our mission is to bring about a transformative change. We accomplish this by delivering crucial training for village birth attendants and health care professionals, encouraging essential antenatal care and promoting family planning choices. We distribute clean birth kits, neonatal resuscitation equipment, and incentive gift bags to enhance outcomes. Furthermore, we support girls' education by supplying Days for Girls (DfG) kits, enabling girls to attend school with confidence, even during menstruation.
Formed in 2015 by Debbie Butters & Kym Robinson, currently on their 9th trip, teams of up to 3 - 5 midwives and others with manual and teaching skills have been able to deliver care and resources to the Anguganak community for nearly 10 years through this project. In 2019 they partnered with HealthServe increasing the support they receive to be able to continue this much needed training. Some highlights from trips over the years are captured in this presentation that was made to the HealthServe 2022 annual Conference.
HBBC support the Anguganak Healthy Motherhood Project in various ways. Some of these include gifts purchased through our Two Birds Christmas Catalogue, ladies from the church joining the Days for Girls monthly sewing mornings, individual financial donations and through prayer.
