Reaching Cambodia - Never Let Go

Alan and Leanne Purvis returned home from a short-term mission trip in Cambodia and were challenged by a Francis Chan message— “Fishers of Men.” The message paralleled how fishermen often fish in the same lake as everyone else, over and over. Meanwhile, there are multitudes of fish in a nearby lake, where almost nobody is fishing. As avid fishermen, they were challenged to fish in other lakes and catch many more fish than they could ever imagine. Now, seven years on, they give us an update from Cambodia.
“If I were in the boat with Jesus, I would grab His leg and never let Him let go!!” exclaimed the lady after hearing about Jesus calming the storm, the wind, and the seas in Mark 4. There is no greater joy than watching people see Jesus for who He is - the King of Kings and their personal Saviour. Since accepting the invitation to share the Good News of hope, love, and freedom through Jesus in Cambodia seven years ago, God has been growing in us a vision to strengthen the Khmer church by teaching and mentoring local people and pastors by speaking their local language.
Seven years ago, another organisation (PCL - People, Care, and Learning) embarked on a similar mission, launching a small Bible School that is now struggling to meet the high demand for Bible teachings. As part of our ministry observation visit to Siem Reap, we witnessed this need firsthand and are now earnestly considering a partnership with PCL next year. We are deeply grateful for the prayers and support of HBBC, which has been instrumental in our efforts to learn the local language and culture, enabling us to share our hope with others.
It is exciting to see God working out His plan, and it was a real joy to pray and share with the lady during Bible class who was comforted by God’s presence during her storm. We praise our God, and we never want to let Him go or the vision He has placed on our hearts. Even so, it is God who is working out His vision, reminding us that it is He who will never let go of us!
HBBC support Alan & Leanne with a monthly financial contribution and gifts purchased through our Two Birds Christmas Catalogue and through prayer.
