Passionate Devotion

"Then Jesus explained: "My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent Me, and from finishing His work."
John 4:34
It is not hard to find people with passion. There are those who devote themselves to a cause, to a movement, to a career. Even among the Christian church there are devotees to church programs, to evangelism, prayer, and doctrine. But Jesus never devoted himself to these things. Though he ministered to the poor, taught about the kingdom of God, and called people to follow him, his devotion was only to the father. It was in that devotion of relationship that his ministry flowed out.

If our devotion is to the Lord Jesus, all of these other good things will flow as a result. It is in being rightly related to the father that we do our greatest work. But when we devote ourselves to causes or to outcomes, even if they are in his name, we wear ourselves out because we are putting the cause above God himself. This is what causes division and disunity within the kingdom of God.

“My food is to do the will of my Father”. All our work and all our efforts primarily come out of what is of first importance, our relationship with God.
