Growing Intimacy

'Inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.'
Exodus 33:11
The idea that God spoke to Moses like one speaks to a friend is as rare as it is amazing. In the Old Testament, God was to be feared, distant, wholly separate. Yet in the New Testament we have this amazing turn of reality in that God places his Holy Spirit directly into the hearts of every believer. Because of his Spirit dwelling within we can experience this same intimacy. This was God’s intention all along. Through the Old Testament prophets, God spoke of this new covenant where he would no longer need to dwell in the temple behind a curtain, but dwell with his people, within their hearts.

The death of Jesus Christ on our behalf cleanses our soul so that God’s Spirit can dwell within us. This begins the journey of intimacy. Like any friendship, intimacy with God grows over time. In prayer we share our life with God. In Bible reading we listen to him speaking back to us. In fellowship with each other we are encouraged and guided. This is the walk of growing intimacy with God.

God bless you and your family
