Volunteer of the Week
David Peaker

A lot of our volunteers serve in several ministry areas and have been in this church longer than most. David is one of these. Enjoy David’s reflections, not only on helping in the kitchen, but about serving in general.
“David offers sound advice on kitchen operations; he regularly steps in for unforeseen team absences, demonstrating his reliability and adaptability.” Heather Armanasco, Kitchen Coordinator
POSITION TITLE: My name is David Peaker. I don't have a title. I am the self-appointed Second in Command to Heather Armanasco the Commanding Kitchen Team Coordinator. We understand each other as we both served in the military. My motto in life is “Do It Immediately”. My goal is to always have the work behind me not on a ‘To Do List’.
This team provides morning tea for the congregation after the Sunday morning service. Tea, coffee, sausage rolls, pies and scones, jam and cream.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU SERVED IN THIS POSITION? I don't know how long I’ve been doing the job. Maybe three years but I do know someone has to do the work. I am on the roster a couple of times a month, but I am there most Sundays to keep an eye on things to make sure everything runs smoothly or offer advice to those who are new to the team. I will fill in or lend a hand if someone can’t make it for their roster.
WHAT DOES YOUR POSITION INCLUDE? The greatest highlight is working with the volunteers on this team. Heather Armanasco does an excellent job leading the kitchen helpers. It’s a good team. It’s great to see the younger people joining in but I’d also like to thank the more experienced members for their expertise and serving by example.
We are very grateful to the team who willingly supply scones.
WHAT IS A HIGHLIGHT SERVING IN THIS ROLE? The after-service fellowship around the tables is a very important part of Sunday mornings at church. If you’d like to step up and help in this ministry, we always have room for extra volunteers.'
John Wesley quoted: “Do all the good you can, for all the people you can, in all the ways you can, for as long as ever you can.”
Thank you David, for being a part of the HBBC community, serving God together.
